The hypocrisy of the situation slaps you in the face. The Jews are trumping up charges and trying to convince Pilate to convict and sentence Jesus to death.

The interaction with Pilate seems like a cat and mouse game with each seeking their own ends. Why did Pilate start with, “Are you King of the Jews?”

But the passion here is a word that refers to the suffering and death of Jesus. Here starts the events leading to the passion of Christ.
Whom are you seeking | John 18:4-11
He walked up to them and asked, “Whom are you seeking?” Of course Jesus knew so why did He ask? Sometimes He asks, not for Himself, but for the asker.
“High Priest” trial | John 18:12-18
The High Priest was the supreme religious leader in Israel. He had special responsibilities and privileges as the key representative of Israel before the Lord.
Kangaroo court 1 – Annas | John 18:19-24
Jesus doesn’t make any apology. Then he reprimanded Annas. Who, but God, can reprimand God’s appointed High Priest, but THE High Priest!
The real trial – Peter’s denial | John 18:25-27
Other than Jesus’ trial, the real trial was happening to Peter. Three different witnesses, one an eye witness, testified against him. His only defense -denial.
