Wrong is right | Malachi 2:17 (NLT)

17 You have wearied the Lord with your words.

“How have we wearied him?” you ask.

You have wearied him by saying that all who do evil are good in the Lord’s sight, and he is pleased with them. You have wearied him by asking, “Where is the God of justice?

Malachi 2:17 (NLT)

Who’s right?

Open the paper (virtually) and read the headlines. This country is blaming the other for the situation. Country B says, No, they’re wrong, it’s actually A that started it. Or, Politician A says this is the correct way forward but Politician counters and accuses A of misrepresenting the truth. Who’s right? So frustrating!

A dose of the daily news, can leave us confused, angry, depressed or frustrated (or all of the above). We don’t know who’s telling the truth. What is the truth? Thank God we have the Bible. We can open His word and know that every single thing we read is the truth. Wow! That’s so refreshing.

Wrong is right

In today’s western culture (and to some extent in others as well) the enemy has not just twisted the truth, he’s turned it on it’s head; upside down. It even happens in the church. I know of someone who says that homosexual relationships are blessed by God and that He calls them a beautiful thing. It’s not just saying homosexuality is an alternative lifestyle (which is also a lie, a twisting of the truth), they’ve gone all the way to the opposite of what the Bible says. They’ve believed the lie of the enemy.

Be careful

Let’s be careful. It is easy to fall into this ourselves. Even though we know the truth, we can be deceived. Take the current topic of our chapter – divorce. We understand from verse 16 from yesterday that God hates divorce. The OT is clear and it’s reconfirmed in the NT. Here’s more on the topic. However, when we’re in the midst of the situation, we are tempted to twist the truth to fit our circumstances. We forget that God is holy and true. He’s also a God of love and grace. He knows our pain; God is there with us. But we don’t trust Him.

Let’s be diligent to know Him and His word and call on Him for discernment so that we can know that truth and have strength, against what culture, our flesh, or even well-meaning friends and family may tell us.
