20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh…
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

In the previous post, we looked at 19-25. Today I want to take another look at v20 then v23.
This “way” (v20) is new and living. “New” in Greek is only used once in the Bible, here in this verse. It means fresh – like the priests had to offer the blood of the sacrifice while it was still fresh, warm, living. So, Christ’s blood is fresh for the offering and will always be for eternity. What comes to mind is the River of Life from Rev 22:1-2 and Ezekiel 47:1-12. Knowing that blood plasma is 90% water, I wonder if this river is perpetually flowing with the life giving blood of Christ. Don’t make a doctrine outta that though!
As I reread (19-25), this one thing stands out – “He who promised is faithful” (v23). Yes He is! It brings to mind other verses that say the same, like,
- “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” 1 Cor 10:13 (NASB) or,
- “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments;” Deut 7:9 (NASB),
- and, “God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Cor 1:9 (NASB).
RЯeflection
- We serve a faithful God. His promises are yes and amen. He will never fail. He is willing and able to save us forever. Do I hear and Amen!?
