The fellowship of sharing in his sufferings.
It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master.
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. – “In this world you will have trouble.” – As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
I looked for sympathy, but there was none… – At my first defence, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me.
“Foxes have their holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” – For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. – Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scoring its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
