Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep…
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. – But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, – “Tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan from right where the priests stood and to carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.” – These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever. – God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. – Witnesses whom God has already chosen, by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
